F-fantastic, A-awesome, T-terrific, H-honorable, E-excellent, R-remarkable

The third Sunday of every June is dedicated to the celebration of dads. Father’s Day is the perfect time to let the special dads in our lives know how much they’re loved and appreciated.

But what do fathers really want? Here are some ideas for the military dad in your family, along with some great deals so pampering him won’t break your bank.

1. Golf - Through Birdies for the Brave, the PGA TOUR offers free and discounted tickets to select PGA TOUR events for veterans, retirees, and active duty.
Most military installations have golf courses. Visit your local base and pick up a gift card so he can play whenever he wants. Some bases also hold Father’s Day tournaments. Be sure to go in and sign him up.

2. Baseball - Is Dad a baseball fan? Many Major League Baseball teams (including the Washington Nationals, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Houston Astros) offer a military discount on tickets throughout the season.

3. Home Improvement - Has he been eying that fancy power drill? Did his favorite grill get broken in the last move? Does he need storage to help him organize all those tools in the garage? Both Home Depot and Lowes offer a year-round military discount to help you find whatever home improvement item is on his wish list

4. Cars - Is it time for a new car? Many automakers, including GM, want to show their appreciation for military families by offering special pricing on their vehicles.

5. Man Cave Necessities - From mini fridges to recliners to televisions, help dad create a new man cave or add on to an existing one. Many wholesale stores are great places to find all the man cave essentials, and they all offer military deals on memberships.

6. Electronics/Gadgets - The best place to start is on base at your local Exchange, but you can find military discounts at stores throughout your local community. Don’t forget about the Exchange’s price match policy!

7. Fitness Needs - Help dad stay in shape by using military discounts for all his fitness needs. If he’s interested in a gym membership or coaching, look into the discounts offered by your local fitness centers. If he needs something to wear during his work out or other athletic gear, check out the local shopping mall for a sporting goods store, or simply go to your local Base Exchange.

8. Hobbies - Does dad like to fish or hunt? Does he play the guitar? Does he like to visit museums? Would he like a gift basket filled with outdoor grilling items or yummy snacks and desserts? Take advantage of the Base Exchange Summer Savings Deals.

9. Photographs – Make a collage, or even a photo album, of family photos. This is especially nice for those who are about to flee the nest. Dad will always have his children close by, even if you are on the other side of the world.

10. Homemade Gifts - Dads can never have too many homemade gifts from the kids for Father’s Day. Whether they’re creating homemade cards, personalized signs or their own creative craft project, they are all special to him.

Happy Father’s Day to all you wonderful dads out there!
