Do you know a mother who has a special needs child? Being
a mother is one of the most rewarding and challenging jobs any women can have.
Add an exceptional family member to the mix, and that sentiment takes on a
whole new meaning. The Exceptional Family Member Program asks that you take a
moment this Mother’s Day weekend to encourage and support mothers who work hard
to help their children with special needs connect to success not failure.
Hard-working mothers come through our doors on a daily
basis ready to do whatever it take to help their child succeed. In a constantly
changing military setting, it controls every aspect of their lives; where they
go, who they see and what they do. These mothers are proud of the role they
play in our military community, they become experts on their child’s diagnosis,
therapies and education plans. They learned to manage a behaviorally
challenging child with a tantrum while folding laundry and cooking dinner. They
are the mothers that still find the energy to plan support groups, advocate for
their children and still participate in their child’s recreational activities.
Mother’s Day gives us the opportunity to celebrate,
honor, and support these amazing women even if they never ask. We are often
inspired by their commitment and dedication to their children, and it’s why we
do what we do. Let them know they are a tireless inspiration for their kids and
for others, even when they don’t realize it. All of us here at the Joint Base
Myer-Henderson Hall EFMP office are committed in assisting as many mothers as
possible as they help their children overcome their unique challenges.
So Happy Mother’s Day to all of our amazing mothers, and
an extra special thank you to moms of children with special needs!
