  The Battle of Yorktown

Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Army Community Service is so excited to celebrate!  June 14 marks the Anniversary of the United States Army; the Army was established in 1775 and has been the primary land based portion of the United States military.  The Army has served numerous roles throughout its history: as a military force, and sometimes helping in domestic disturbance and disaster situations.

The Revolutionary War was the foundation of the Army and the United States, and was founded in response to a need for professional soldiery in the American Revolutionary War in order to fight the invading British Army. The U.S. Army has had several major periods of combat including the War of 1812, American Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. After the Cold War ended, the Army has had considerable involvement in UN and NATO peace-keeping efforts as well as the recent War in Iraq and the War in Afghanistan.

With the celebration of Memorial Day and the Anniversary of the United States Army, it becomes so much more important to appreciate and celebrate the brave individuals who fought for the rights and opportunities that we are privileged to have every day.   Over Memorial Day there were so many events to commemorate the dedication of those who served, and on June 14, the Anniversary of the Army, I hope that we can reflect on the individuals who served in the Army throughout our nation’s landmark events and military activity.

If you are looking for community events to celebrate, Twilight Tattoo is a great event that celebrates the Army, additionally, there will be a cake cutting ceremony Friday June 14 at the JBM-HH Dining Facility at 11:15.  For more information individuals are encourage to call 703-696-2087.
