Every person is part of a community, from the neighborhood they live in, to the education they receive and the friends they keep; everyone has their own niche in this big world. It didn’t take me long as an intern, and now as a Contractor, to realize the strength and the unity that the military community represents; more specifically, the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall community.
This installation is unique in that it is a joint installation between Army and Marines, and in addition, provides resources to many service members and families who may live up to several hours away. Regardless of distance, I have learned that the Army Community Service is committed to their mission of facilitating the commander's ability to provide comprehensive, coordinated, and responsive services that support readiness of Soldiers, civilian employees and their Families. With such a comprehensive goal, ACS programs work to alleviate financial stress, provide life skills classes, spousal employment and social support and provide individual and family support when PCSing.
The military is full of traditions; while all of the traditions here are unforgettable, some of my favorite traditions here at JBM-HH are those that include the community as a whole. Some of these include Commander hand-off, Twilight Tattoo, volunteer appreciation luncheons and celebrations that commemorate American history. Army Community Service dedicates itself to serving the needs of individuals and families, and because of that, promotes and advocates for services. By collaborating with local communities as well as staying on top of policies, Army Community Service stands to serve not only the military community on the installation, but in the surrounding area. ACS supports these traditions and helps connects individuals to the community, to take part in celebrating military culture.
If you have questions, concerns, or are in need of resources and community support, keep ACS in mind. Personal, one on one meetings and sessions with our professional and resourceful staff could be just what you need to feel included and have your needs met. Chances are, ACS will be able to find the class for you, the event that is family friendly, the volunteer opportunity you’ve been looking for or the resource you need to get going. Stop by our office, Building 201 and see what we can do to get you engaged in our community!
