Happy Mother's Day!

Mothers will be celebrated on this Sunday, May 11. JBM-HH Army Community Service would like to share some activities to help you make mom smile with appreciation.

Mother’s Day Celebration Ideas offered around the National Capital Region:

• Take a trip! Instead of a weekend at the beach, consider a walking trip and tour Washington, D.C., Mount Vernon, or historic Old Town, Alexandria. To find some free walking tours in the DMV area, check out this resource link: (http://www.freetoursbyfoot.com/washington-dc-tours/tour-calendar/).

• Enjoy a Mother’s Day Brunch with live jazz and outdoor seating overlooking the Navy Memorial fountains at the 701 Restaurant, located on 701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW Washington, DC. Brunch will consist of a three course meal for $50 per person (Valet $8). For reservations, call (202) 393-0701.

• Visit the Gadsby’s Tavern Museum in Alexandria, VA. Free tours are available on Mother’s Day from noon to 5 p.m. for all visiting mothers. Tours times are :15 and :45 of each hour during the designated time with the last tour at 4:45 p.m. Cost is $4 for all other adults and $2 for children ages 11-17. • Treat that special woman in your life to an elegant tea at the Carlyle House in Alexandria, VA on Sunday, May 11, 2014 (11:00 AM-4:00 PM). Reservations are required and can be made by calling 703.549.2997 or e-mailing carlylerentals@nvrpa.org. The Admission Fee is $30 per person.

• Celebrate at Mom Fest on May 9-11, 2014. Special sales, in-store events, restaurant offers, live entertainment and music plus much more will be offered to celebrate all moms. Prices vary by event. See website for schedule. Annapolis Towne Centre, Annapolis. Visit atc.com/momfest-atc.

• Mother's Day Stepping Stone Workshop on May 10, 2014. Make your mom a beautiful stepping stone for her garden. Free. 11:00am-12pm. Masonville Cove Environmental Education Center, Baltimore. www.masonvillecove.org. Some events may have a cost or fee associated with the event.

• Free Mother's Day Tour at the Darnall's Chance House Museum on May 11, 2014. Complimentary tours for mothers and grandmothers when accompanied by paying child or grandchild. Noon-4pm. Darnall's Chance House Museum, Upper Marlboro. For more information, visit history.pgparks.com.

• Honor your mother even if she's no longer living. Send a donation to her favorite charity or spend the day volunteering with her favorite charitable cause.

Even though mothers should be honored every day, this particular day is set aside for loved ones to show extra love and appreciation for everything that a mother has done, is doing, and will do.
