Army Emergency Relief

What is the Army Emergency Relief?

Army Emergency Relief (AER) was founded as a private nonprofit organization in 1942 under the laws of the Washington D.C. for the purpose of collecting and holding funds to relieve distress of members of the Army and their dependents. Later in 1976 the AER joined with the Army Relief Society (ARS) and assumed the ARS mission of providing financial assistance to widows/widowers and orphans of deceased Regular Army personnel. The AER National Headquarters is located in Alexandria, Virginia. Its primary mission is to provide financial assistance to Soldiers, Retirees, and their Families.

- AER is the Army's own financial assistance organization and is dedicated to "Helping the Army Take Care of its Own."

Please see the message below from the President of the Army Emergency Relief:

Since its founding in 1942, Army Emergency Relief has been taking care of Soldiers and their Families by providing financial assistance in a time of need. AER is structured on a worldwide basis to meet a variety of needs to include emergency financial aid, children and spouse scholarships, grants to Wounded Warriors and benefits for surviving Family members.

We take great pride in our commitment to be there when we are needed. Since inception, we have provided over $1.5 billion in assistance. But our support does not stop there. We continually look at new and innovative ways to improve our policies and programs and expedite the process of providing assistance.

Our goal will always be to continue maintaining the highest standards of “Helping the Army take care of its Own” which has been the hallmark of Army Emergency Relief for over 68 years. Please take time to explore our website. Your questions and comments are always welcome.
