Play it Safe!!!

Play it Safe!!!

Whether your kids are working on a puzzle, playing with building blocks or even inventing their own games, here are a few things to think about to help them stay safer and have a blast.

1. Read consumer reviews. If the toy is defective or dangerous, consumers are the best voice to spread the news.
2. Read the label. Labels often give you age and safety recommendations.
3. Select toys that are suitable to the age, interest and skill level of your child. Ensure the toy is constructed durably and that small pieces are secured appropriately.
4. Avoid toys that have sharp edges and points, especially for younger children.

Once the gifts are open:
1. Immediately discard of excess wrappings on toys. Plastic wrapping can block airways and be a choking hazard. Best to get rid of it fast.
2. Keep toys separated appropriately. Keep toys for older children away from the younger.
3. Pay attention to instructions.
4. Batteries can pose a serious danger. Make sure all battery compartments are secured appropriately.
5. If purchasing a mobile toy, provide proper fitting protective gear. (Better safe than sorry!)

Toys are not the only hazard during the holidays- no. Trees and decorations can often be hazardous as well.
1. If purchasing a Artificial Tree, ensure the tree is labeled “Flame Resistant”.
2. Ensure you keep your tree away from flammable areas, such as: fireplaces, radiators and/or heaters. Furthermore, don’t place it somewhere that would block an exit in case of an emergency.
3. Turn off all lights when you go to bed or leave the house. The lights could short out and start a fire.
